Vocational Studies

Intent

In vocation, our wide range of courses, expert tutors, and industry-standard facilities provide you with hands-on experience in all aspects of construction. From Bricklaying and Carpentry to Painting & Decorating and Plumbing, we can equip you with the skills and technical knowledge that you will need to start your career. We will build your confidence when working independently or collaboratively as part of a team. We aim to give you the basic skills required for the construction industry, this includes a high understanding of Health and Safety and the use of PPE. Within our workshop, you will learn how to use tools competently in a safe environment and manner.

The courses we offer can lead to apprenticeships and further qualifications/ employment. We aim to prepare each learner with the skills required to undertake employment within the building industry. 

As a SEMH provider, we offer a differentiated learning approach to meet the individual needs of each learner understanding that each learner is different and as such we offer Entry Level 3 to Level 1 Diplomas to cater to these needs.

The City and Guilds qualification we offer is a nationally recognised qualification. The skills are transferable. Within the course you will learn to problem solve with confidence, knowing that mistakes are part of learning, and this can be done in a controlled environment. 

We offer a 1-year course over two areas, there are 4 areas to choose from. At the end of a 2-year stay, you could gain a level one in Bricklaying, Carpentry, Painting & Decorating and Plumbing. 

We understand the importance of cross-curricular work to provide our learners with a good understanding of the additional skills required to undertake these areas. 

All instructors are highly skilled and motivated, all follow the marking policies of the college, and ensure every learner has the very best chance to unlock their full potential in the vocational area.

City and Guilds Entry Level in the Construction Industry

City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma / Award / Certificate in Carpentry

City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma / Award / Certificate in Painting & Decorating
